For a student who want to have dinner in Columbia University, they have three choices, John Jay Hall, JJ's Place, and Ferris Booth. The thing that they need to consider includes the food offered, the current flow rate, and table availability. Therefore, we choose a pair of ToF sensors to detect the entrance and departure of students in each dining hall. Two sensors combined together into an array can record the direction of anyone passes by, and upload the data to Dynamodb.
Then, we use PIR Motion sensor to monitor the availability of tables in each dining hall. Each dining hall has three sample sensors to indicate the crowdness .
And finally, we implemented an Android application to allow users to grade dishes, which will be stored in Dynamodb along with his personal information as reference for later recommendation. KNN is applied as recommendation algorithm in our system.
Current menu is presented on the app in favor of users.
